Experimenting with expired film is fun! You just never know what exciting results you’ll achieve… and you might even discover your very own unique style in photography!
If you’re new to shooting with expired film, here are some helpful tips from the wonderful Lomography site to get you started…
- If you’re not using the expired film straight away, it’s best to store it in a freezer until you’re ready to shoot – this will slow down the degradation process.
- Load the expired film into your camera immediately after removing it from the package, as otherwise there’s a greater risk of exposing it and ending up with blank prints. If your film came from the freezer, thaw it at room temperature first before loading it in the camera.
- Choose slower film speeds as these don’t degrade as quickly… but if you’re after extreme results, faster film speeds are your best bet.
- Avoid harsh lights when shooting since these can lead to distortions or light flares on your images – unless of course that’s exactly what you’re looking for!
- Try cross-processing for some magical results!
